Erin Giles, RM
My name is Erin Giles and I am a Registered Midwife through the College of Midwives of Alberta. I have been a midwife for 19 years and am passionate about providing quality midwifery care.
Midwifery is a passion I hold due to the profound impact I have seen it make in countless families. It has shaped me as a person and enhanced my life individually as well as professionally. Having the opportunity to bear witness and hold space for families throughout such an important season of their lives is a privilege. I have witnessed hundreds of births and I still feel a sense of awe fill my soul at each birth I attend.
Midwifery has opened the door for me to be involved in many avenues of opportunity from teaching students, working internationally, collaborating with other medical professionals, supporting hundreds of families and most recently, leading a midwifery practice. All these experiences have impacted the midwife I am in positive ways enabling me to provide experienced, compassionate midwifery care.
When I’m not attending clients, I love spending time with my family, gardening and being outside.
I’m grateful for this work and the ability it gives me to be a part of profound moments with each family I serve.
Hillary Johnstone, RM, RN
My name is Hillary Johnstone, and I have been a midwife in Medicine Hat since 2020. I received my Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery (with distinction) from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2019. I then spent my first year midwifing at a busy downtown Toronto practice before moving back west to pursue more rural midwifery in Medicine Hat. My passions are empowering women through birth and postpartum education, advocating for family centred care within health care, and helping new parents find the feeding plan that works best for them and their family.
Prior to becoming a midwife, I completed a combined Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Kinesiology degree (with distinction) at the University of Calgary in 2011. I worked as a Registered Nurse in both pediatric and neonatal care units in Alberta before moving to Toronto, Ontario in 2016 to pursue midwifery, and I maintain my RN license alongside my RM license. In my free time I enjoy camping, gardening, roller derby (Derby Name: Midwife Crisis) and walking my golden retriever, Gus, along the river.
